Festive Carol Concert Helps Raise The Roof And Money For Trust
A leading national charity has thanked supporters after an uplifting festive carol concert sponsored by law firm Irwin Mitchell was held to help raise crucial funds in the run-up to Christmas.
The Meningitis Trust hosted its annual carol concert at the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral with more than 200 people enjoying carols, hymns and readings from the Liverpool Walton Band of the Salvation Army, singer Tom Spence, the Marple Hall Pop Choir and classical tunes from pianist Gillian Dolan and violinist Appu Rudralingam.
The trust, which celebrated its 25th anniversary last year, collected donations in excess of £800 at the event and the money will help provide professional services and community-based support for adults and children affected by meningitis. The charity also raises awareness about how to spot the signs of the devastating illness.
Jennifer Cawthorne, a medical law expert from Irwin Mitchell’s Manchester office who represents people affected by the serious illness, said: “At Irwin Mitchell we see many clients who have been affected by life-changing medical conditions like meningitis, which can be a devastating disease, so we were really proud to sponsor this magical event.
“The atmosphere at cathedral was really festive and it was great to hear everyone sing along to the carols. We hope it helped boost everyone’s Christmas spirit while raising valuable funds for the charity and awareness of the fantastic work it does to help people who have suffered meningitis, and their families.”
Chris Hughes, community support officer for the Meningitis Trust, said the carol concert is one of the charity’s most popular fund-raising events.
“Liverpool Anglican Cathedral is a beautiful venue for our annual concert and it proved to be an uplifting and wonderfully festive event yet again,” she said.
“There was a lovely community feel to the event and while we were all there to celebrate Christmas, it was a great opportunity for people to help the trust raise the £8,000 a day it needs to continue its work. We know all our supporters look forward to the event but it would not be possible without the support of generous sponsors like Irwin Mitchell.”
