Legal Experts Call On Motorists To Take Care In Difficult Conditions
Serious injury lawyers are calling on drivers and authorities to take every possible step to ensure people are kept safe on the roads in the coming months, after a series of incidents highlighted the potential dangers of driving in winter.
Up and down the country there have been reports of road traffic collisions which have been linked to the seasonal weather, with snow and ice creating difficult driving conditions for motorists.
Among the incidents include a ten-vehicle pile-up near the Thanet Way in Kent on Wednesday morning (December 5th), which saw cars collided on a bend with one vehicle badly damaged. No major injuries were reported.
News of the road accident came after Grampian Police north of the border were informed over more than 70 incidents on the roads in their region between Friday (November 30th) and Sunday.
Irwin Mitchell’s team of specialist serious injury lawyers represent people across the UK whose lives have been affected by road traffic accidents, including victims left seriously injured as a result of such incidents and families who have lost loved ones in crashes.
Colin Ettinger, a Partner and serious injury claims lawyer at Irwin Mitchell, said: “It is well-known that the winter months can create some testing and dangerous driving conditions for motorists, but it is vital that road users and local authorities do everything they can to ensure safety is a top priority on the roads.
“With drivers, it may be a case of adjusting stopping distances or ensuring the car is prepared for trips in difficult weather, while authorities should do what they can to ensure measures are in place to treat road surfaces affected by snow and ice.
“Too many people are hurt in road accidents every year which could and should have been avoided and it is vital everyone plays their part over these particularly worrying few months to keep the roads safe.”
