Lawyer Welcomes LSB Plans To Finally Regulate Wills Services

Consumers ‘Deserve Consistent, Quality Service’

Will writing specialists at Irwin Mitchell have welcomed the Legal Services Board’s (LSB’s) new proposals to ensure that all will writing services are fully regulated.

The body has confirmed that, after a full review into standards within the areas and new research into the many issues that consumers can face, it is proposing that all providers should be regulated and brought within the list of ‘reserved activities’.

According to the LSB, it hopes that the recommendation will provide protection for consumers, as well as effective regulation which goes on to enable both competition and innovation.

The proposals have been welcomed by Irwin Mitchell’s specialist Wills and Estate Adminstration team, which offers expert advice on preparing for the future and helping families who have lost loved ones to wind up an estate.

Gillian Coverley, Partner, said: “We are very pleased to note that the LSB has put forward this plan to improve the standards of service that consumers receive.

“Writing a will is an incredibly important issue, so the fact that so many services have been offered by unregulated firms is a major cause for concern. People simply deserve a consistent, quality service when approaching this.

“While Irwin Mitchell as a law firm is subject to guidance from the Solicitors Regulation Authority, the lack of regulation in relation to other providers means proper measures have not been in place for consumers to properly hold such organisations to account.

“These proposed changes will provide consumers with more confidence that they will get the best possible service and ensure that the right questions are asked when this has not been the case.

“However, we would always urge people to seek professional, quality advice from a law firm like Irwin Mitchell to ensure the get the best information available when planning for the future.”
