A five day jury inquest is due to start at Bolton Coroner’s Court  at 10am on Monday 24 October, to investigate the death of a man killed instantly when a large metal counter-balance weight from a pressing machine, struck him on the head causing a fractured skull.

At the time of the incident, the pressing machine was being carried on a fork lift truck.

25-year-old welding engineer Bruce Dempsey, from Eccles in Manchester died in December 2009 as he helped to move a fly press at Manchester based company Heavey Engineering now known as Applied Fusion.

Keith Cundall, a serious and fatal injury specialist from law firm Irwin Mitchell’s Manchester office, is representing Bruce’s family at this difficult time. Commenting on the tragic case, he said: “This has been an extremely distressing time for Bruce’s family, who have lost a much loved son.

“They hope that the inquest will provide them with some answers to the questions they have about the circumstances surrounding the accident and Bruce’s tragic death.
