Expert Welcomes New Initiative
A new campaign launched to improve the levels of protection given to babies born into families where there is a high risk of abuse has been welcomed by experts at Irwin Mitchell.
The NSPCC’s All Babies Count initiative has been unveiled after new figures suggested up to 200,000 babies are born into households in which domestic violence, mental health and addition are serious problems.
According to the organisation, the government needs to act to ensure resources and expertise are available to ensure authorities can intervene at the earliest possible stage to ensure youngsters are protected from any possible harm.
Specialist lawyers at Irwin Mitchell act for many people who continue to suffer the physical and psychological consequences of child abuse.
Gary Walker, an associate solicitor at the firm’s Sheffield office, said: “It is excellent news to see the launch of this new campaign, with its clear focus on ensuring that children are kept safe from the possible threat of abuse.
“In many of the cases we act in, we sadly see the consequences of what can happen if authorities have failed to act quickly enough to keep people safe.
“The figures released by the NSPCC show the sheer number of youngsters who are at high risk of abuse and this needs to be addressed. We hope that this campaign is a step in the right direction to ensuring it does.”
