HPA Reveals Concerns Over Bristol Cases

Illness specialists at Irwin Mitchell have called for authorities in the south-west to carry out a thorough investigation into a confirmed outbreak of E.coli at a Bristol school.

The Health Protection Agency has revealed it is looking into the five cases which have been found at Redfield Edge Primary School, with each of the youngsters involved being hospitalised.

It is also considering reports that parents of 40 pupils have highlighted mild symptoms, while similar problems have allegedly been seen at other primary schools in the city.

The source of the outbreak has not yet been identified.

“Strains of illness like E.coli can have a devastating impact on vulnerable members of society like children, the elderly and those who are already sick. We see first-hand how it can have a massive impact on the wellbeing of people, with some often suffering long-term health problems as a result.

“It is vital that authorities quickly get to the bottom of these problems and work to address how and why it came about.

“Hopefully such information will then ensure that lessons can be learnt from this case that will prevent people in Bristol and elsewhere from suffering the same problems.”
