Hearing To Take Place At Reading Coroner's Court

An inquest into the death of a 64-year-old who died at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in June 2009 is due to scheduled to start on Monday, May 16 at Reading Coroner’s Court.

Mr Elkington from Thatcham, Berkshire was admitted to accident and emergency in March 2009 suffering from chronic renal failure. During the months that followed he continued to receive treatment for this condition, as well as a number of other illnesses contributing to his deteriorating health, such as diabetes.

The family’s lawyer, medical law and patient’s rights expert Peter Cutler from Irwin Mitchell Solicitors said: “This has been a very difficult time for the family who hope that the inquest will provide some answers as to the circumstances surrounding Mr Elkington’s death.

“Though he was a very ill man, the post-mortem carried out after his death suggests that he also suffered from infected pressure sores. It is the cause of these pressure sores that the family are keen to establish.”

Coroner Peter Bedford will hold the inquest at Reading Coroner’s Court. It is scheduled to run from Monday May 16 to Wednesday May 18.
