Customers Offered Free Modification

Global car manufacturer Citroen has confirmed it is recalling over 20,000 cars in its C3 Picasso range in the UK following concerns over the braking system on the vehicles.

The announcement has been made following concerns that the brakes can be activated by passengers sitting in the front seat of the car to the left of the driver.

It is believed the problem – which Citroen is offering to check for free – has arisen on some models manufactured in France, due to the modification of the braking technology to suit the right hand drive system.

Product liability experts at Irwin Mitchell represent a number of people who have been injured in incidents related to defective equipment.

Katrina Elsey, a product liability specialist at the firm, said it was good to see efforts being made to address the issue.

She added: “While it is good to see action being taken, answers are needed as to how and why the problem with the braking control system was not spotted earlier during the manufacturing process.

“The safety of their customers should always be a priority, so it is vital that reassurances can be provided that drivers of both future Picasso models and other Citroen vehicles have no reason to worry that they may also face similar problems in the future.

“We would also urge any drivers who think their cars may be affected by problems to seek advice from their nearest dealership as soon as possible.”
