Expert Calls For Investigation
Eighteen schoolchildren have been hospitalised following a school bus crash in Chesterfield this morning (March 15th).
Reports have revealed that the roof of the TM Travel double-decker was ripped off after the vehicle collided with a railway bridge while transporting the children to St Mary’s Catholic Secondary School in the town.
Ambulance workers have confirmed that one child was seriously injured, while a number suffered minor injuries.
Gary Walker, who specialises in group claims at Irwin Mitchell’s Sheffield office and has been instructed by the families of several children injured in the incident, said it was vital that an investigation is carried out both quickly and thoroughly.
He explained: “Traffic collisions of all kinds can have a devastating, traumatic impact on those involved, particularly younger people.
“It is vital that the local police force consider all possible avenues as to how and why this crash occurred, with a view that any information gathered could prevent similar problems in the future.
“Ultimately it is vital that the families of the youngsters involved are given reassurances that this incident will not happen ever again.”
