Answers are needed following a work accident in which a man employed on a road widening scheme suffered serious leg injuries, according to a workplace injury expert at Irwin Mitchell.
Reports have revealed that a 25-year-old man was trapped under a digger while working on the project on the A46 in Nottinghamshire over the weekend.
The Health and Safety Executive is now investigating the cause of the incident, which also led to the temporary closure of the road, while the victim is being treated in Nottingham’s Queens Medical Centre.
David Urpeth, who specialises in helping those seriously injured in accidents at work for Irwin Mitchell, said: “It is welcome news that authorities are now taking a serious look at what occurred in relation to this industrial accident.
“Serious workplace incidents of this kind can have a tremendous impact on those involved and their loved ones, as they come to terms with the often life-changing impact of the trauma they have suffered.
“An investigation will provide vital and much-needed answers into what occurred, while such findings should also go some way to ensuring that further incidents of this manner do not happen again.
“Health and safety should always be a priority for workers and I hope lessons can be learnt from this terrible event.”
