Eleven People Affected By Problems
Health bodies in Scotland are investigating after eleven people fell ill following a suspected food poisoning outbreak at Hamilton Park Racecourse.
Three people were admitted to hospitals in East Kilbride and Glasgow at the start of this week in relation to the incident, while eight more have reportedly been unwell. All of them dined at the racecourse on Monday (August 22nd).
The Food Standards Agency and NHS Lanarkshire are now on-site investigating the possible food poisoning outbreak, while the organisations would like to speak to others who ate at the site.
Illness experts at Irwin Mitchell, who help people in their battles for justice over illnesses suffered both in the UK and abroad, have called on the authorities to work quickly to identify the root cause of the problems.
Commenting on the reported outbreak, Suki Chhokar, a Partner and illness specialist at Irwin Mitchell, said: “News of these illness problems is a serious concern and it is vital that answers can be provided as to whether the problems did indeed originate from the racecourse.
“Many of the cases we act in highlight just how serious food poisoning can be, in some cases leaving people with long-term conditions which they never fully recover from.
“There are clear food hygiene guidelines for organisations to follow and it is vital that authorities examine whether any failure to meet these safety regulations may have played a part in these issues.
“Ultimately, for the sake of those serious affected by the illness, we hope that lessons can be learnt which ensure the problems seen in this case are not repeated.”
