Spotlight On Safety After Woman And Child Are Hurt

Investigations are continuing into an accident in which a woman and child suffered serious injuries after being thrown from a fairground ride in Bridlington.

Reports have revealed that the 58-year-old woman lost her leg after falling from the Jungle River flume ride on the seafront of the resort on Sunday (August 28th), while her four-year-old granddaughter suffered both cuts and bruising.

Both victims were airlifted to hospital following the incident, which is believed to have occurred after the attraction jammed and then restarted.

Personal injury specialists at Irwin Mitchell act for people who have suffered injuries in public places including fairgrounds and theme parks, including the family of a three-year-old girl who was hurt while on a ride at M&D’s Theme Park in Motherwell in 2010.

David Urpeth, head of the specialist public liability team at the national law firm, said: “This is unfortunately just the latest in several incidents of this kind which have been seen across the UK, with a 12-year-old being hurt after falling from a rise at the Camelot Theme Park just last week.

“Operators and owners of theme parks have a responsibility to keep visitors to their attractions safe from harm, so it is clear that answers are needed over how and why this new incident in Bridlington came to occur.

“We represent people hurt in similar cases and often they seek advice simply because they want to know what happened and how the same problems can be avoided in the future.

“It is vital that all safety regulations on the site are reviewed and we hope lessons can be learnt which will ensure everyone can enjoy rides safely.”
