On Track For Fundraising Success

Lawyers Prepare For Great Scottish Run

09.09.2010

A group of Glasgow lawyers are swapping the courts for the track, as they are taking part in a sponsored run to raise money for a vital Scottish health service.

The six runners from national law firm Irwin Mitchell are taking part in the 10k Great Scottish Run to raise money for the Queen Elizabeth Spinal Unit at the Southern General. They chose the cause due to a client who was in a road traffic accident and was treated in the Spinal Unit.

The Great Scottish Run takes place on 5 September – it will be supported by a further eight runners from Irwin Mitchell who are raising money for Irwin Mitchell's nominated charity of the year, Erskine.

Michael Callaghan, one of the solicitors taking part in the challenge, said: "We represent a number of clients with Spinal Cord Injury and the effect that this type of injury has on people's lives can be devastating. Luckily we have the Scottish National Spinal Unit on our doorstep and the level of care that patients within the Queen Elizabeth Unit receive is exceptional.

"We set ourselves the challenge of running 10k in the Great Scottish Run. We've all been training hard and I'm aiming to finish in under an hour. Hopefully people will be generous in sponsoring us and we will raise a good amount for this excellent cause."

Elaine Russell, Partner with Irwin Mitchell was involved in a horse riding accident in April of this year and ended up undergoing surgery at the Southern General. She said "The staff in the Southern General are fantastic. I am convinced that I would not have made as full and fast a recovery as I did had it not been for the care I received. The work the Spinal Unit do is tremendous and we want to do something to show our thanks for their work."
