Authorities must carry out a swift investigation into the incident which led to the death of worker who was trapped in a collapsed trench, a leading industrial accident expert has demanded.

The 23-year-old man is believed to have become trapped yesterday morning while working on a construction site in Bradford. Emergency services worked throughout the day to rescue the victim, but it was later confirmed that he had died.

While few other details have yet emerged on the tragic incident, work accident specialist, David Urpeth of Irwin Mitchell said it was vital that the Health and Safety Executive carry out a quick yet thorough inquiry into the events.

The workplace injury lawyer said: “The terrible details which have emerged in the reports of this accident are a real cause for concern.

“I hope that the relevant authorities are able to quickly provide an answer to the young man’s loved ones on just how the accident which claimed his life came to occur.

“My sympathies go out to the friends and family of the worker involved in this tragic accident.”
