Leeds Properties Affected By Discovery

News that asbestos has been found in the gardens of homes in the Gildersome area of Leeds is a great cause for concern, a lawyer has suggested.

Reports have revealed that the city council has sent letters to 60 households on both the Forest Bank estate and Springbank Avenue after the material was found in the area.

The local authority also intends to carry out more tests on soil to discover the extent of the problem, which is believed to be linked to the fact the homes are built on the site of a former textile mill.

Ian Bailey a partner at the Leeds office of national law firm Irwin Mitchell, who represents families affected by the legacy of asbestos, said the details which had emerged were a worry.

He said: “I am pleased to see that the council has reacted promptly to the discovery of asbestos in the gardens of these properties.  I hope that work to protect those living in the homes affected is carried out as quickly as possible.”
