Bliss Report Raises Concerns
Action must be taken after the publication of a new report which suggested that care services for premature and sick babies are at breaking point, a top lawyer has demanded.
Suzanne Munroe, who specialises in clinical negligence cases for Irwin Mitchell, reacted after the release of The Chance Of A Lifetime, the sixth annual baby report published by charity Bliss.
It revealed that 1,150 nurses are needed to meet minimum standards in care recommended by the NHS and the Department of Health, with concerns arising that the current shortage may put the lives of babies at risk.
Discussing the case, birth injury expert Suzanne Munroe said: “It is vital that steps are taken to ensure that nurse shortages are addressed as quickly as possible, particularly if such problems may impact on the quality of care available.
“The safety of patients of all ages must always be a primary focus for those working in the NHS, so anything that could lead to a drop in standards will always be a concern.
“I hope that the problems are addressed immediately and all babies are able to receive the care they both need and deserve.”
