Worker's Leg Trapped In Machinery
An incident which saw a man’s leg become trapped in machinery has highlighted how important it is for workers to have protection from the dangerous parts of such equipment, according to a lawyer.
Irwin Mitchell’s workplace injury expert David Urpeth commented after reports revealed that firefighters in Chichester spent two hours dismantling the machine, which is used to deseed pumpkins, in order to free the victim.
While he was flown to Royal London Hospital by air ambulance, it is thought the man has no life-threatening injuries.
Discussing the incident, accident at work claims lawyer David Urpeth said: “While this case has attracted much interest due to the season, it once again highlights how important it is for workplace safety to be taken seriously.
“Whilst it is pleasing to hear that the person involved has not suffered life threatening injuries, the incident will undoubtedly raise questions in relation to the protection provided to the worker.
“People need to be protected from both the mental and physical trauma that workplace accidents cause.”
