Sheffield Set For Biggest Pride Festival Ever
Sheffield's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community will be able to sort the facts from the fiction on important legal issues as law firm Irwin Mitchell gets involved in the biggest Pride festival in the city at Endcliffe Park on 26 June.
Lawyers from leading firm Irwin Mitchell, which is a proud sponsor of the Rainbow Weddings Tent will be on hand throughout the day to answer any queries relating to subjects such as civil partnerships, wills, conveyancing, parental rights and IVF treatment.
Irwin Mitchell, which is a Stonewall diversity champion and committed to promoting equality and diversity, has seen civil partnership enquiries increase over the past few years and is predicting a similar trend for pre-civil partnership agreements as pre-nups are increasingly upheld by the courts.
Martin Loxley, a partner and head of family law at Irwin Mitchell, said: "It will be fantastic to be part of the celebrations in Sheffield. Our family teams are heavily involved in Pride events across the country and we are delighted to be able to show our support once again in Sheffield.
"We want the LGBT community to know exactly where they stand on important legal issues and that some of their concerns may simply be urban myth or hearsay.
"With ever-changing legislation, such as the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 2008 in mind, it’s of paramount importance that same sex couples seek expert advice if they are unsure about anything.
"We are really looking forward to being part of the event and hope that lots of people will stop to chat to us to find out more about how our services could benefit them."
Over 5,500 people enjoyed the sunshine in Endcliffe Park last year and Sheffield Pride is heading for an even bigger and better event for 2010.
The event is dedicated to 'Pride over the ages' as this year marks 40 years since the first ever gay pride marches took place in USA.
The main stage in Endcliffe Park will contain music and acts from across the last 40 years along with speeches and testimonials from individuals who have lived through the last 4 decades, celebrating the rights and freedoms we experience today due to the dedication and sacrifices that were made in the past.
There is also a Help the Aged Tea Tent to watch poetry while eating cream teas, workshops to encourage people to get involved with their community, a dance DJ tent and a bar provided by Outbar Leisure.
