Court Hearing To Be Held In January
A workplace injury expert has revealed his hopes that an upcoming court case involving Shell UK will provide definitive answers over what caused a fire at a gas terminal in February 2008.
The Environment Agency and the Health and Safety Executive have notified the firm that it is to be prosecuted by both organisations over an explosion and fire at the Bacton Gas Terminal in Norfolk.
An initial court hearing will be held in January, where Shell UK will face charges of breaching both environmental and health and safety legislation in relation to the incident.
Commenting on the case, David Urpeth of Irwin Mitchell said: “While no one was hurt in the 2008 explosion at the terminal, it is clear there is still a need for answers in relation to how the incident and the subsequent fire came to occur.”
