Incidents 'Rise Over New Year'
A lawyer based in Irwin Mitchell’s Glasgow office has welcomed calls for male victims of domestic violence in Scotland to make use of a new helpline.
The Men’s Advice Line, which is run by UK abuse charity Respect, has revealed that incidents rose from the average daily rate of 24 to 68 on January 1st this year.
According to the Press Association, operators behind the helpline have stated that the festive period is often a time when those suffering from domestic violence may see their problems worsen, so urged anyone facing problems to get in touch.
Backing the helpline, Elaine Russell of Irwin Mitchell said: “Victims of domestic violence are often left with both physical and emotional problems which can take years to recover from.
“However, many people tend to forget that men too can face problems at home from abusive partners or relatives.
“The right support services are a vital tool in ensuring all victims receive the care and attention they need, as well as guidance which allows them to move towards a brighter future.”
