Report Criticises MoD
The lawyer who represented the families of 14 British servicemen killed when a Nimrod aircraft crashed near Kandahar, Afghanistan, has called for lessons to be learnt and immediate action taken after a report into the incident heavily criticised the MoD.
The deaths, which happened in Afghanistan when a Nimrod Aircraft exploded in mid-air, were the biggest single loss of life for British forces since the Falklands War.
Mr Haddon-Cave QC today published his findings from a 22-month review into the disaster and criticised the MoD of sacrificing safety to cut costs.
Andrew Tucker, head of personal injury and an armed forces specialist at law firm Irwin Mitchell said: "The Reports findings are genuinely shocking and it re-raises the issues of safety highlighted at the Coroner's inquest in May last year.
"We welcome this independent report and the recommendations and hope that it goes some way to ensuring that lessons are learnt so that such a tragic and unnecessary loss of British service personnel is never allowed to happen again in the future."
