Birth Injury Solicitor Joins Leeds Medical Law And Patients' Rights Team
An experienced birth injury solicitor has joined the Personal Injury department at the Leeds office of national law firm Irwin Mitchell.
Sarah Coles is working in the Medical Law and Patients’ Rights team at Wellington Place following a recent spell working as a volunteer in South Africa.
Her arrival marks a return to Yorkshire where she studied law at the University of Hull before attending York Law School.
She brings more than 10 years’ experience to the firm having worked as a clinical negligence specialist at Kester Cunningham John in Thetford, Norfolk.
High profile cases she worked on included securing a seven-figure settlement to provide future care for a cerebral palsy sufferer, compensation for a hospital patient who contracted MRSA as well as a series of birth injury cases.
She has been travelling for the past year and recently spent six weeks in a Zulu village in South Africa teaching, working at an orphan centre and raising awareness of HIV.
Sarah Coles said: “Working on birth injury cases can be very challenging at times but it is an area of law I am hugely passionate about and I’m looking forwarding to using my experience to help my clients.
“I had offers from several other firms but there was no decision to make once Irwin Mitchell asked me to join so I’m very excited by my new role.”
Rachelle Mahapatra, a partner at Irwin Mitchell and Head of Medical Law and Patients’ Rights in Leeds, added: “Sarah is an experienced birth injury specialist and her appointment further adds to the depth of expert knowledge available with the team.”
