Edward Smith's Butchers caught by health officers
A butcher has been banned from selling ready to eat food after hygiene inspectors found unacceptable levels of the E.coli bug in his shop. On two visits to Edward Smith's Family Butchers in Rawmarsh environmental health officers saw Mr Smith fail to wash his hands after handling raw meats and before handling cooked meats and pies at the shop on The Parade, Thorogate.
A test of a pork pie revealed unsatisfactory levels of the E.coli bug and the inspectors also found Mr Smith was not adequately disinfecting surfaces and the cooked meat slicer was contaminated with E. coli.
Rotherham Council's application for a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Order was granted by magistrates on Wednesday.
