Legal Advice Available To LGBT Community
Manchester’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community will be able to speak to lawyers during this month’s Pride event.
On the 29th to 31st August, family lawyers from Irwin Mitchell, which is a proud sponsor of the event, will be available from 11am each day at the Lifestyle Expo 2 area to answer queries relating to subjects such as civil partnerships, parental rights and IVF treatment.
The law firm, which is a Stonewall diversity champion, committed to promoting equality and diversity, has seen civil partnership enquiries increase over the past few years and is predicting a similar trend for pre-civil partnership agreements as pre-nups are increasingly upheld by the courts.
Elizabeth Tait, a partner in family law at Irwin Mitchell’s Manchester office, said: “It will be fantastic to be part of the celebrations in Manchester. Our family teams have already been involved in Sheffield and Leeds Pride and we are looking forward to being at Manchester Pride’s Big Weekend.
“We want the LGBT community to know exactly where they stand on important legal issues and that some of their concerns may simply be urban myth or hearsay.
“With ever-changing legislation, such as the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 2008 in mind, it’s of paramount importance that same sex couples seek expert advice if they are unsure about anything.
“We are really looking forward to being part of the event and hope that lots of people will stop to chat to us to find out more about how our services could benefit them.”
Thousands are expected to join in the Pride celebrations during the weekend, which will feature the iconic festival parade from 1pm on Saturday, 29th August.
