Worker Killed In Bridge Accident

Industrial Accident

A man has died following an apparent industrial accident near a railway bridge in North Lincolnshire.

Police said the man, who has not been named, was seriously injured during an incident at a construction site close to a bridge over the River Ancholme, near Brigg.

The man, a contract worker for the UK construction contractor Amalgamated Construction (Amco), was taken by Air Ambulance to Scunthorpe General Hospital where he later died.

A Humberside Police spokesman said an area underneath the railway bridge has been cordoned off while investigations get under way.

The spokeswoman confirmed the injuries had been fatal but said no more details about his identity were available at this time.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is now working with police to establish how the incident occurred.

A Network Rail spokesman said the man was not working directly for the firm.

He said the man was working for Amco, a multi-disciplinary construction and engineering contractor which operates throughout the UK in rail, mining and engineering.
