Tesco in Trading Standards Breach
Supermarket chain Tesco has been fined £50,000 after a trading standards breach. Trading Standards officers visited five stores in South Wales and found that they were selling food that was out of date.
Of 102 items bought by trading standards officers, some products were found to be out of date and others had no date on them at all.
Despite Tesco claiming that strict procedures are in place they admitted to 25 charges and asked for a further 23 offences to be taken into consideration.
David Urpeth, Partner at law firm Irwin Mitchell commented: "In the modern world we live, many people rely on supermarkets for their food. As such, supermarkets have a duty to ensure that the food they supply is safe to eat.
"In this case, Tesco let down their customers by failing to meet required food standards. I represent many people who have suffered through eating food which has caused illness."
