Salmonella Contaminated Brazil Nuts

Imperial Snack Foods have recalled one batch of its own-brand Brazil nuts, because the product is  thought to be contaminated with salmonella. The Food Standards Agency has issued a Food Alert for Information.

The product being recalled is:

• Brazil nuts
• Best before: 17 November 2009
• Size: 200g
• Batch code: 8320.K

No other Imperial Snack Foods Ltd products are known to be affected.

Salmonella is a bacterial infection. Most people that are infected with Salmonella develop diarrhoea, fever, vomiting, and abdominal cramps  between 6  and 72 hours after infection. In most cases, the illness usually lasts 3 to 7 days  and most affected persons recover without treatment.

Irwin Mitchell currently represent a number of consumers who contracted Salmonella after eating Cadburys chocolate. In June 2006, the Food Standards Agency forced Cadburys to withdraw a million chocolate bars from shops and supermarkets after Salmonella Montevideo was identified at one of its factories.
