Compensation available for victims of sexual abuse
26/09/2007
A registrar appeared in court charged with the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl at a Norfolk hospital on the 24th September 2007. Rashid Sandhu, 29, a doctor at the James Paget Hospital, Gorleston, appeared at Norwich Crown Court where he was released on conditional bail. Dr Sandhu who lived in Brotherton Way, Hopton, but now resides in Kent, is due to appear in December to enter a plea.
He has been charged separately with 17 counts of making indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children. Dr Sandhu has been suspended from his job while an investigation into the allegation of sexual assault last June is carried out.
Survivors of child abuse may be able to obtain further redress in the form of compensation for their suffering and for support counselling or other medical treatment to assist in their recovery from the abuser or, in certain circumstances, from the abuser's employer.
