Asbestos at work
Workers were exposed to Asbestos while undertaking refurbishment work in Blackpool leading to two companies being fined a total of £25,000 and ordered to pay total costs of £11,788 after being found guilty of breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act.
Eclipse Developments Ltd were fined £15,000 and ordered to pay £6,535 while The Pink Leisure Ltd were fined £10,000 and ordered to pay £4,753 costs after both pleaded guilty to endangering the lives of workers in April 2005.
Mark Cottriall, HSE lead construction inspector for Lancashire, said: A substantial amount of asbestos insulating board and flock asbestos was disturbed while the refurbishment was being carried out in the upper circle, leading to the construction site being closed for a number of weeks while a licensed asbestos contractor was called in to carry out an environmental clean and the removal of the remaining asbestos.
