Crane collapse in Liverpool
On Monday 15 January 2007 a tower crane collapsed at a site at Colquitt Street. As a result of the accident one person was tragically killed and the driver of the crane was seriously injured.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) attended the site on the same day and a joint investigation into the accident is now ongoing which is being lead by Merseyside Police. It is not yet known whether the principal contractors and crane operators ensured that the crane was erected, operated and maintained in accordance with the advice given by the HSE in their safety alert issued on 17 October 2006.
The HSE have served a Prohibition Notice on Falcom Crane Hire Ltd, the company who supplied the crane, to take out of service all tower cranes in their fleet which have not been subject to a thorough examination by an independent competent person.
