Clinical Negligence Solicitor Issues Statement

24/02/2010

Lisa Jordan, Partner and Head of Clinical Negligence for Irwin Mitchell in the Midlands, said:

“This report makes harrowing reading for anyone who cares about the issue of patient safety in the NHS, which should surely always be the top priority but clearly wasn’t at Mid Staffordshire. Over a four-year period, the hospital and its management routinely and repeatedly failed the very people they were supposed to be caring for – and then, even more damningly, failed to act to ensure lessons were learned and mistakes in basic care were not repeated.

“The NHS must learn to listen to patients and their families. The stories which have so moved this inquiry were being told in our offices week on week, even as this Trust was gaining elite status and hitting targets. League tables alone do not guarantee good care. Patients need to know that they are safe and there are enough nurses to care for them properly."
