National Fork Lift Truck Safety Conference

25/07/2010

The National Fork Lift Truck Safety Conference has been moved to a larger venue this year to cope with increased demand after the announcement of an interesting array of speakers.

Last year's conference sold out in record time and the Fork Lift Truck Association (FLTA) believes 2010's roster of speakers will generate even more interest.

Health and Safety Executive (HSE) board member John Spanswick CBE will give a keynote presentation using his experience at the top levels of project management and the construction industry, in what is among the highlights of the 2010 programme.

Mr Spanswick will discuss how strategic improvements by management can prevent deaths and injuries at work and has led the FLTA to encourage attendees to bring their boss.

FLTA chief executive David Ellison said: "As ever, the Safety Conference will be packed with practical, no-nonsense information for any manager with responsibility with fork lift trucks. However, we'll also make it clear that the bigger picture - the strategies and priorities set by those at the top - make a huge difference to the risks faced by workers in the warehouse."

Topics covered will include strategic planning, site surveys, corporate manslaughter and operator assessment, while delegates are somewhat cryptically invited to 'plan your own accident'.

David Urpeth at Law Firm Irwin Mitchell said: "I welcome the conference which hopefully will reduce the numbers injured or killed following a work accident involving a fork lift truck."
