Reports Of Children Having Parts Of Fingers Amputated
02/03/2010
A wide-spread investigation has been launched following children losing parts of their fingers in dangerous hinge mechanisms in Maclaren pushchairs.
The Consumer Focus body is concerned that other makes of pushchair have a similar hinge mechanism and are also a threat to babies and toddlers.
Maclaren originally told Trading Standards chiefs that there was no need for action in Britain because it was aware of only one accident in the UK (despite being recently ordered by a consumer taskforce in the U.S. to issue safety covers for the hinges on their best-selling buggies following injuries to toddlers).
However, a number of parents and doctors have reported children suffering injuries and have called for safety improvements.
