Clinical negligence team's reputation strengthening

12/02/2010

The North East’s leading clinical negligence law team has added to its ranks with the appointment of a new solicitor.

Newcastle University graduate Daniel Laycock, 27, has joined the North East office of national law firm Irwin Mitchell. He graduated in 2004 before taking his Legal Practice Course at the University of Sheffield, then worked as a paralegal with Sheffield firm Taylor and Emmet.

He has now qualified as a solicitor and has joined Irwin Mitchell’s Clinical Negligence team, which has just been confirmed as the largest and most successful in the North East by both leading law industry guides, the Legal 500 and Chambers UK: A Client’s Guide to the Legal Profession.

The team represents people across the region who are the victims of medical mistakes. It specialises in high-value claims which often involve people left severely disabled and requiring long-term care and support for the rest of their lives.

He said: “I really like and respect the way Irwin Mitchell fights to get results. It was always daunting when they were the opposition!

“This is a great firm to come to as a newly-qualified solicitor and I think this is the perfect environment for someone like me who is competitive and ambitious, and prepared to fight for our clients.

“I’m joining one of the biggest firms in the UK and will receive all the professional development and support that goes along with that.”

John Davis, regional managing partner at Irwin Mitchell in the North East, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Daniel to the team. He’s a very promising young solicitor with a strong background and a clear desire to work in clinical negligence, which requires passion and commitment to helping clients who have often been left needing huge amounts of support.

“Our clinical negligence team has always enjoyed a good reputation in the north east but that reputation is getting stronger every year – we are now the leading firm in the region for medical law and patients’ rights.”

In his spare time Daniel is a keen golfer and footballer – he was club captain for Newcastle University’s football team.
