Illness At Egypt Hotel

24/08/2010

Sixteen British tourists struck down by illness at the Hauza Beach Resort in Egypt have contacted travel lawyers at Irwin Mitchell, making this the third year running that the law firm has heard reports of illness at the hotel.

Lawyers from the firm are already involved in compensation claims on behalf of tourists who fell ill at the hotel in 2008 and 2009.

Laura Horn and her partner were among those to travel to the five-star hotel this year. She said: “The whole place stank of sewage and there were flies and birds everywhere! The food was mostly undercooked and we never saw it covered properly; and the cutlery and glasses were filthy.”

Suki Chhokar, a partner at Irwin Mitchell said: “Over the past three years we have been contacted by more than 50 holidaymakers who were taken ill at the Hauza Beach Resort. One year is bad enough but to see these complaints continue for so long, putting the health of guests at risk, is simply unacceptable.

“We can’t stress enough how important it is for holiday companies and hotels to take the health and safety of their guests seriously. We urge all the companies sending holidaymakers to the Hauza Beach Resort to carry out an immediate hygiene review to make sure that nobody else suffers in the same way. If they can’t be sure that the hotel is safe they should stop sending tourists there.”

Travel lawyers at Irwin Mitchell are now investigating Mrs Horn’s complaints. The form is already pursuing compensation claims against Jet2.com, Directlineholidays.com, Bookableholidays.com, lowcostbeds.com, Qwerty Travel and Imperial Travel on behalf of guests who stayed at the hotel in 2008 and 2009.
