Leg Amputated After Foot Trapped In Machinery

28/07/2010

A Somerset building firm has been fined after a delivery driver had to have his lower leg amputated after his foot became trapped in machinery.

Alan Seviour was clearing material from the front of a surface paving machine in Heathfield in August 2008 when he got his foot trapped between a bar on the machine and a speed bump on the road, crushing his foot.

John Wainwright & Co, based in Mendip Road, Radstock, admitted breaching health and safety laws at Taunton Magistrates' Court after being prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive.

The firm was fined £10,000 and ordered to pay prosecution costs of £8,015.
