First Great Western Train Collision

19/01/2010

A First Great Western Train service travelling from Barnstaple to Exmouth collided with a stationary train bound for London on platform one at Exeter St David’s station on 4 January 2010 resulting in several passengers being taken to hospital for further treatment.

The Exmouth-based train was carrying 12 passengers, five of whom were taken to hospital with injuries.

The Rail Accident Investigation Board is carrying out an investigation into the cause of the accident and the train was immediately quarantined to allow their investigation team to examine it.

A passenger on the Exmouth-based train has reported that an announcement was made that the train was defective and all on-going passengers must disembark at Exeter St David’s station. Unfortunately, this is when the accident took place.

Irwin Mitchell Solicitors have been approached by an injured passenger to pursue a potential personal injury claim and would be interested to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the accident or was a passenger on one of the trains. Contact us now if you have more information.
