New Yorkshire Hospital To Open

14/07/2010

The new £300m Pinderfields Hospital will open its doors to patients for the first time on Monday.

The milestone has been reached less than three years after contracts were signed for the development to go ahead.

The Children's Centre, which brings together all children's outpatients services and features separate waiting rooms for younger children and teenagers, will be among the first sections to open.

Comfier consulting and treatment rooms are complemented by sensory therapy rooms and a play area.

Five-year-old Joshua Lindley, who has cerebral palsy quadriplegia and epilepsy, was selected as one of the "faces" of the hospital and had an early look at the play zone.

Joshua needs regular physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language sessions at the hospital.

His mother, Joanne Kendall, said: "We've been regular visitors to Pinderfields since Joshua was 18 months old. When the hospital were looking for someone to be in a poster campaign the staff recommended Joshua straight away - he's got such a broad smile he's perfect for it. He's going to be on the side of every bus on the hospital bus route and in magazines at all the GPs surgeries. It's brilliant."
