Irwin Mitchell’s asbestos related disease specialists helped to secure a settlement for a terminally ill victim of mesothelioma, shortly before he passed away.
Mr M was a former ceiling fixer and was exposed to asbestos over the course of the 1970s whilst working for Bailey Interiors Limited. Decades later he discovered that due to his work, he had developed mesothelioma, an incurable and terminal cancer linked to asbestos dust.
Days before Mr M passed away, Irwin Mitchell secured a settlement for his claim and recovered £100,000 in damages to help provide for his wife in the future.
Mark Aldridge, a Solicitor specialising in asbestos related cases commented: “I was really pleased that we were able to settle this claim which meant that he was secure in the knowledge that his wife would be provided for after his death. Our only regret is that we couldn’t settle the claim any earlier.
“Mesothelioma is a deadly and aggressive cancer that progresses very quickly. Employers need to do more to own up quickly when former employees develop mesothelioma because of their own negligence. This can ensure that justice is done for their former employees who did nothing wrong other than turn up to work and contribute towards the company’s success.”
