Irwin Mitchell’s serious injury solicitors secured a five figure sum for a man after he was crushed in a machine.
David, a food industry operative from Chesterfield, was attempting to fix a machine which had stopped working. However, whilst working on the task with his line manager, a colleague set the machine to running whilst David was inside it. He was crushed in the machinery and sustained facial fractures. David went on to suffer distressing psychological symptoms due to the accident.
Lisa Fairclough, a lawyer in our serious injury team, helped David secure his settlement. She said: “In this case there was criticism of the systems of work in operation. Improvements to both the way in which tasks were to be undertaken and in physical measures such as interlocking guards were recommended."
She added: “Employers need to try and make the work environment as safe as possible for everyone.”
