Specialist road traffic accident solicitors at Irwin Mitchell secured a settlement of nearly £100,000 for a woman injured in a serious car crash.
Our client, Judith, was in a car driven by her husband when another car ignored the ‘give way’ markings at a junction, driving straight into the side of their vehicle. Judith’s aunt, who had been travelling with Judith and her husband, was tragically killed in the collision, and the other driver was later convicted of causing death by careless driving.
Judith suffered a number of serious injuries as a result of the crash, including a traumatic brain injury with a lacerated scalp, a ruptured spleen and fractures to the arm and shoulder blade. Because of her head injury, Judith developed very debilitating post-traumatic migraines and balance problems including vertigo and dizziness. These interfered with her ability to carry out her work as a health professional.
After Judith contacted our serious injury team for help, we secured significant interim payments for her, paying for private orthopaedic physiotherapy, vestibular physiotherapy to help with her balance problems and private consultations with neurologists to manage her migraines. We then negotiated a settlement of £95,000 for Judith.
Sofie Toft, a serious injury specialist in our London office, helped Judith with her claim. She said: “Judith suffered severe injuries as a result of the accident which had serious ongoing effects on her daily life and ability to get back to work.
“I am pleased that through the claims process, we were able to obtain funding for Judith to access rehabilitation including physiotherapy, neurology and audio-vestibular therapy. These therapies have gone a long way to getting Judith back to health and to work as soon as possible.”
On the conclusion of her claim, Judith said: “Irwin Mitchell guided me through the process of making my claim with great professionalism but also kindness. At a time of real stress and difficulty it was enormously reassuring to be treated so thoughtfully and as an individual by both Colin Ettinger and Sofie Toft, my personal specialist solicitor. I could not recommend Irwin Mitchell more highly.“
