Irwin Mitchell's expert personal injury team has helped a man claim over £2,000 after he suffered a loss of hearing due to working with machinery without ear protection.
Our client, aged 76 on settlement, was employed by Lintaforam (Manchester), Interfloor Limited and Greenwood & Coope between 1969 and 1990.
During a typical working day during these period of employment, he would apply the backing to carpets and order to communicate with his colleagues, he would need to shout despite his fellow workmates being just a few feet away.
During his employment, our client was not provided with ear protection, despite the excessive noise within the department.
He found that later on in life, his hearing was deteriorating and he now struggles following conversations if there is any background noise. He also has to turn up his TV and telephone to a very loud volume.
The man instructed Irwin Mitchell's personal injury specialists and following medical examination, it was found hat his hearing had been damaged significantly during his period of employment, which could have been prevented with the provision of ear protection.
As a result of his hearing loss, he will require the use of a hearing aid in the future. Thanks to personal injury experts at Irwin Mitchell, our client received over £2,000 in compensation for his hearing loss.
If you or a loved one has suffered from hearing damage such as acoustic shock, tinnitus, and noise-induced hearing loss caused by conditions at work our solicitors could help you claim compensation. See our Industrial Disease Claims page for more information.
