Irwin Mitchell’s specialised serious injury team has helped a young man claim compensation after a serious road traffic collision.
On Saturday 7 October 2012, our client Gareth had planned to spend the day with close friends near the town of Uxbridge. He was en route to see a friend in the morning and visit a local cafe for breakfast. Whilst travelling to the cafe, Gareth’s friend, who was driving the car, lost control and collided at high speed into a lamp-post. The fire service was called to cut Gareth out of the passenger seat.
On 26 February 2013, the driver was convicted of dangerous driving and received a custodial sentence together with a three year driving ban.
As a result of the high speed impact, Gareth suffered multiple injuries to both of his legs and sustained a strong blow to his head. These injuries dramatically restricted Gareth’s mobility, forcing him to take extended leave from work. He has since relied on his family and friends for physical, emotional and financial support.
How Irwin Mitchell Helped
Gareth’s decision to contact Irwin Mitchell enabled him to receive the expert medical treatment he needed, helping to maximise the speed and convenience of his overall recovery. Irwin Mitchell’s team of personal injury specialists helped Gareth to make modifications to his home and to access a range of services which included private medical support, intensive physiotherapy, specialised gym membership and regular psychological treatment.
Lead case handler Laura Middleton-Guerard, commented on Gareth’s case: "This was a life changing collision for Gareth, who is still undergoing rehabilitation.
"We were able to use the claim to enable him to access funds and put in place the therapeutic support and equipment he needed. It is still early days but with further interim payments, it is hoped Gareth, in time, will make a good recovery."
