A man has received a four figure sum in compensation after he developed hearing loss from working in a noisy environment without the use of ear protection.
Our client was employed by Tankard Carpets Ltd. During a typical working day, he would operate looms and weaving machines in a textile mill, where he would be exposed to excessive noise.
The noise was so loud, he found it hard to communicate with his colleagues and would have to shout to be heard, even though his co-workers were only a few feet away. He was not given any ear protection until the later years of his employment.
In later life, our client has now found that his hearing has deteriorated. He struggles to follow conversations where there is any background noise and has to turn up his TV louder than what is suitable for others.
Irwin Mitchell took on his case and instructed a medical expert who found that our client’s hearing has been damaged significantly during his employment and this could have been prevented with the use of ear protection. As a result of such hearing loss, our client may need a hearing aid in the future.
Specialist personal injury solicitors at Irwin Mitchell’s Sheffield office helped the man to claim £1,500 in compensation for the hearing loss sustained.
