Man obtains compensation following loss of hearing from employment

Man Obtains Compensation Following Loss Of Hearing From Employment

Irwin Mitchell has represented a man who has suffered hearing loss caused by the job that he did as a BT Line Maintainer.

The man aged 63, was employed by BT between 1979 and 2000 as a Customer Apparatus and Line Manager. The man would test lines using oscillator amplifiers, which could only be used in one ear.

During the testing, the man was subject to high pitched noises. Due to this, the man would experience buzzing in his ears at the end of his shift.

During his employment, the man was not provided with any personal protective equipment, which included ear protection.

The man found recently he had difficulties following a conversation in a public place and also found he could not hear sounds on his right side.

The man therefore instructed Irwin Mitchell, who took on the case and instructed a medical expert to provide a report regarding the man’s hearing loss. It was found the man’s hearing had been damaged significantly during his period employment and this could have been prevented with the provision of ear protection.

With the help of Irwin Mitchell, the man obtained £3600 in compensation.
