Failings In Residential Care Home Lead to Death Of Woman’s Son

Irwin Mitchell’s public liability team is representing a woman whose 24-year-old son tragically died whilst under the care of a residential home.

A care assistant in the home left the keys of the premises on the table next to our client’s son whilst she went to supervise another resident. Unfortunately, our client’s son let himself out of the property with the key and died after falling 25 feet from a bridge to the road below.

The residential home admitted liability for the young man’s death and our client received compensation to reimburse her for the expenses arising from the funeral and various other expenses. Her legal costs were also paid but no amount of money could reimburse her for the loss of her son.
