Reiss Matthews, an Industrial Disease specialist based in our Birmingham office, helped a Leicestershire lady claim compensation after she suffered work-related hearing loss.
Mrs P, a thread puller at Coats Vivella between 1982 and 2000, was required to stand next to knitting machines whilst in use, exposing her to excessive noise levels which resulted in hearing loss.
Mrs P did not receive any health and safety training advising her of the dangers this activity posed to her hearing, on which Reiss Matthews commented "this case highlights the importance of health and safety policies. Employers have a duty of care to their staff, which includes ensuring protective equipment is provided so exposure to noise is kept to a minimum".
Coats Vivella settled the claim out of court and Mrs P received £2,000 in settlement of her claim. Reiss Matthews further commented "this was not a straightforward claim and I am delighted with the outcome. This is a fantastic result for our client".
