Julie visited her doctor after noticing a dint in her right nipple. She was referred to the breast clinic at Barnsley District General Hospital.
There was a delay in carrying out full investigations and, as a result, her breast cancer was diagnosed four months late. The only treatment available by that time was mastectomy.
Julie underwent surgery to have the breast reconstructed, but suffered infection and wound breakdown.
A further attempt was made to reconstruct the breast, which involved three further operations, resulting in chronic breast infection.
We pursued a claim against Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust which resulted in £80,000 compensation.
The case was won by Julie’s solicitor, Georgina Sheldon.
