Earlier this year we followed the story of one of our Court of Protection client’s Christian and the support he and his mother have received from Irwin Mitchell.
Christian suffered a severe brain injury during his birth and began his journey with us when our medical negligence team secured a financial settlement for him so he can be cared for around the clock.
A special two part video has been created to take a look at Christian’s journey and the help he receives to ensure he has the best possible quality of life.
Due to Christian’s severe medical requirements, a team of four carers are employed to care for him 24 hours a day, alongside significant support from his mother Vicki.
Christian is now 29 years old and his injuries resulted in him suffering from epilepsy as well as various physical and mobility issues.
He has to wear an epileptic helmet at all times and uses a wheelchair in order to gain mobility.
Part one introduces Christian and his family, including Vicki, his mum who explains Christian’s support needs and the benefits of having our Court of Protection team working with her.
Julia Lomas, who heads up our Court of Protection team, was appointed to act as Deputy for Christian in January 2008, in order to look after his property and financial affairs.
With our support Christian is determined to live his life to the full, regardless of his disabilities, and spends his time attending festivals and participating in a range of arts and crafts activities. Part two introduces the roles of Christian’s support workers, and particularly Matt who has worked with Christian for ten years.
"The support from the Court of Protection team has been a huge help - to have Christian's finances protected, secure and independent is a big weight off my mind."
