Handling Back Injuries At Work With Expertise And Sensitivity

If you’ve suffered a back injury at work, you may be entitled to claim compensation for your injuries.

Irwin Mitchell has a team of dedicated solicitors who have a wealth of knowledge and experience in dealing with workplace back injury claims.

Back injuries at work can be attributed to a number of possible industrial accidents. Most workplace back injuries are caused when people incorrectly handle or carry large, heavy objects or in falls from height, or a trip or slip accident whilst others are caused by being struck by falling objects.

There can be a huge variation in the severity of back injuries for which industrial injury claims are pursued. Some people, for example, will have extremely serious spinal injuries that can even lead to paraplegia, whilst others will suffer prolapsed discs or damage to soft tissues, tendons, ligaments or muscles.

Many people think that if they have had problems with their back previously, they won’t be able to make a back injury claim. However, you may be able to do so if:

A pre-existing back condition has been aggravated further

Symptoms that might not have developed for years have been brought forward as a result of an accident at work

£1.2m Spinal Injury Case

£1.2m Spinal Injury Case

Our specialist spinal injury team in Sheffield assisted a former warehouse operative in securing a £1.2m damages settlement following an accident in 2005 at his place of work, which lead to him suffering incomplete paraplegia. Barry, 60, was left with severely reduced mobility when a lift-truck which he was operating at his place of work in Boston plummeted to the ground, fracturing his spine.

The Sheffield team secured an early admission of liability from his employer and a substantial interim payment enabling Barry and his wife to move into a fully adapted new bungalow within 18 months of the accident.

Neil Whiteley, who represented Barry along with his colleague Rachael Aram, stated "by bringing in our client liaison team at an early stage, and later a specialist spinal injury case manager, we were able to assist Barry and his wife through what was undoubtedly a very difficult time, just when they were beginning to look forward towards their retirement. Both have done fantastically well, and it has been a pleasure to work for Barry to achieve this result".
